Our approach

A document that reflects the transaction.

A lease, service agreement or promise to purchase needs clarity on who is responsible, what must be delivered, what is paid and what happens if circumstances change. We review those points alongside the particular terms of the matter.

Our work can begin with an idea, a draft you have received or an agreement already signed. We distinguish terms still open to negotiation from existing commitments, then define the review, drafting or assistance in writing.

A defined starting point

Know what you will receive before engaging us.

Depending on the agreed service, the proposal may include:

  • A reviewed document with comments or proposed changes to the version received.
  • A draft contract or amendment prepared for the described transaction.
  • A summary of risks, outstanding decisions and points requiring confirmation.
  • Expressly agreed rounds of comments or negotiation.

The proposal identifies the deliverables relevant to the matter; they are not all included automatically. Fees, applicable taxes, expenses and additional actions are confirmed in writing. Comprehensive property or business due diligence, litigation, tax and foreign-law advice are excluded unless a separate engagement defines the relevant assistance.

Who we advise

For everyday agreements and business decisions.

01

Individuals reviewing a lease, promise to purchase or service agreement before signing.

02

Businesses and professionals documenting relationships with clients, suppliers or commercial partners.

03

Clients abroad receiving a contract for a transaction in El Salvador.

04

Parties who have already signed and need to assess an amendment, renewal or possible termination.

What we can review

A scope suited to the agreement.

The proposal identifies the document, transaction, versions and included rounds of review or negotiation. Not every inquiry calls for an entirely new contract.

01

Leases

Property use, rent, deposit, expenses, maintenance, handover, renewal and exit. We review landlord and tenant responsibilities within the agreed scope.

02

Service agreements

Scope, deliverables, acceptance of the work, payments and changes. We clarify each party’s responsibilities and the matters to agree before work begins.

03

Purchase promises and agreements

Reservations, deposits, conditions, outstanding documents and consequences if the transaction does not complete. Contract review does not replace title or property due diligence.

04

Confidentiality

Information to be shared, permitted use, authorized recipients, duration and treatment when the relationship ends. The scope reflects the proposed exchange.

05

Commercial agreements

Supply, distribution and other business relationships: obligations, deliveries, payments, proposed exclusivity and arrangements for managing changes or disagreements.

06

Amendments and signed contracts

Review of the current agreement, attachments and correspondence to assess amendments, renewal or termination. A breach or approaching deadline requires an individual assessment.

How we work

From your objective to a version you can assess.

The initial call helps us understand the matter. Document review and legal advice begin after conflict and compliance checks and written confirmation of the engagement.

  1. 01

    Understand the agreement

We identify your objective, the stage, the parties and any prior signature, payment or correspondence. We confirm which documents to review through the agreed channel.

  2. 02

    Define the work

We agree whether you need review, drafting, negotiation or an amendment, and define deliverables, rounds of changes, fees and responsibilities.

  3. 03

    Review or draft

We identify risks and outstanding decisions or prepare the agreed document. We explain proposed changes so you can assess them before accepting.

  4. 04

    Support the decision

We address the comments and negotiation covered by the engagement. Before signing, we identify outstanding matters and formalities to confirm for the transaction.

Bilingual legal advice

Advice that connects the wording to your decision.

Compass Abogados provides contract advice in Spanish and English. Recommendations are explained in the context of your commitments, alternatives and transaction.

If the matter needs property, corporate, tax or foreign-law review, we identify that need and define the additional work. A contract review is not presented as comprehensive verification of every aspect of the transaction.

For the first contact, give only the type of agreement, your objective and whether it has been signed. Do not send documents or confidential information before initial checks and confirmation of the receiving channel.

FAQ

Before requesting a contract review.

Can you review a contract prepared by the other party?

Yes. Within the agreed scope, we can review the document and attachments, explain risks and propose changes. We need to distinguish the current draft from earlier versions and understand which terms have already been accepted.

Can you draft an agreement from the beginning?

Yes, after defining the transaction, parties and terms to be documented. The proposal sets out the information needed, versions and included rounds of changes. A ready-to-sign contract is not generated automatically.

What if I have already signed or started paying?

The review must start with the signed agreement, its attachments and subsequent events. It should not be treated as a draft awaiting acceptance. We assess obligations and options before recommending an amendment, communication or termination; this page does not instruct you to stop paying or performing your obligations.

Does a review include negotiation, notarization or registration?

Only if those actions are expressly included in the proposal. Review, negotiation, notarial work and registry procedures need defined scopes. A dispute or court representation requires a separate assessment and engagement.

Can I request the service from abroad or in English?

We can begin the conversation remotely and advise you in Spanish or English on Salvadoran-law matters. Bilingual drafting, translations and signing formalities are confirmed separately; we do not assume that every transaction can be completed without personal attendance.

What does it cost and when will I receive the document?

This depends on the requested work, length, attachments, complexity and expected negotiation. Fees, applicable taxes, expenses and deliverables are confirmed in writing before work begins. The timetable reflects available information and the parties’ actions; we do not offer an automatic turnaround or guarantee acceptance by third parties.
